Backend Tech Lead with SRE responsibility

Are you a senior backend engineer who wants to combine hands-on development with technical leadership, cloud architecture and operational responsibility?

For our client Lattec, we are looking for a hands-on Backend Tech Lead / SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) to help shape, build and operate their AWS-based backend platform. This is a key technical role in Lattec’s R&D Software organisation, where you will provide day-to-day technical leadership within the backend/SRE domain while remaining close to the code, architecture and production systems.

Lattec, based in Allerød, Denmark, has achieved significant international success with its advanced solutions for modern dairy farming. The company develops proactive analytical and sensor systems that monitor the health of dairy cows on farms, serving customers worldwide. Lattec has a strong multidisciplinary team of approx. 60 employees, around 30 in R&D including software developers, hardware, electronics and mechanical engineers, as well as chemical engineers, veterinarians and biologists.

The role as Backend Tech Lead / SRE
In this role, you will take technical ownership of the backend/SRE domain and translate overall technical direction into daily engineering execution. You will guide backend developers, contribute directly to development and strengthen the reliability, observability and operational maturity of the platform.

Lattec’s Tech Leads collaborate closely across Device, Backend/SRE and Frontend, recognising cross-team collaboration as essential to sharing priorities, managing dependencies and aligning technical decisions. This ensures a common direction and helps identify integration risks early.

What you will do

  • Lead the day-to-day technical work within the backend/SRE domain.
  • Actively contribute to backend development and remain close to the code and technology.
  • Provide technical direction, support architectural decisions and help resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Take technical ownership of SRE, reliability, observability and operability.
  • Improve monitoring, incident handling, CI/CD, automation and deployment practices.
  • Drive good engineering practices, code quality, maintainability and documentation.
  • Work with AWS-based backend technologies, focusing on scalable, secure and reliable solutions.
  • Work closely with the R&D Software Lead to translate overall R&D priorities into clear backend/SRE priorities, ensuring that incoming tasks are understood, assessed and handled in line with the wider R&D direction.

Tech stack and your experience
We expect you to bring strong, hands-on experience with several of the core technologies used in the AWS backend platform, including:

  • Python for backend services, automation, data processing and AWS Lambda development.
  • TypeScript for modern backend services, tooling, infrastructure definitions and integrations where relevant.
  • AWS Lambda and serverless architecture, including event-driven design, scalability, security and operational robustness.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC), such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform or similar tools, to ensure repeatable and maintainable cloud infrastructure.
  • GraphQL for new APIs, including schema design, resolver implementation, API versioning, performance considerations and alignment with frontend consumers.
  • AWS services commonly used in backend platforms, such as API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch and IAM.
  • CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation and production monitoring in an AWS environment.

About you
You are a senior backend engineer who enjoys combining hands-on development with technical leadership. You are comfortable making technical decisions, guiding other developers and taking responsibility for systems that need to run reliably in production.

You likely bring:

  • Strong backend engineering experience, preferably in cloud-native or serverless environments.
  • A practical understanding of SRE, observability and operating production systems.
  • Experience designing APIs and integrations, ideally using GraphQL.
  • A pragmatic approach to guiding technical decisions, fostering open collaboration and keeping momentum high.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work across frontend, backend and device boundaries.
  • A focus on quality, security and maintainable solutions.

Fluency in English and Danish is essential.

What makes this role different
This is a technical leadership role, not a people-management position. You lead through technical expertise, collaboration and active involvement in development, staying close to the code while providing the direction needed to ensure the backend/SRE domain evolves in line with the wider platform.

The Lattec mindset

  • Be curious, experiment and take pride in making things work better.
  • Ask “What is the system actually doing?” — not just “Is this a software problem?”
  • Work across disciplines and take responsibility for the whole solution.
  • Deliver precise data that helps farmers make better decisions.
  • Build reliable systems that reduce downtime and give peace of mind.
  • Make advanced technology simple, so customers get the value without the hassle.

Why join Lattec?
At Lattec, you will work on technology that supports modern dairy farming and contributes to better animal welfare through advanced digital solutions. You will join a focused engineering environment where backend, frontend and device development work closely together to create robust and scalable products.

Product development at Lattec is a shared, creative journey where Product Managers, R&D specialists and engineers combine domain knowledge and technical expertise to create real value for farmers.
Lattec offers a high degree of flexibility and excellent employee benefits, including five weeks of annual holiday, five additional days off, four extra Lattec days off, a pension scheme, health insurance and a lunch scheme with themed lunch days.
